Happy New Year! We repeat the greeting each year and maybe sing what lyrics
we know from Auld Lang Syne. As we pass through the memories of 2011 they
propel us forward and increase our taste for the coming year. “2012 will be better!”
This time of year reminds me of the “Lost Day.” Astronauts and space scientists at
GreenBelt, MD checked the position of the sun, moon and planets to safeguard future
satellites. Their calculations discovered a “missing day.” “The Lost Day” puzzled
them until one Christian scientist relayed learning about the sun standing still in
Joshua 10:12-13. “The sun stood and the moon stayed – and hasted not to go
down about a whole day.” God provided the phenomena to insure victory for the
Israelites.
Yet, “the Lost Day” is still 20 minutes short. In 2 Kings we read about Hezekiah on
his death bed was visited by Isaiah who stated that he was not going to die. Hezekiah
asked for the sun to return backwards 10 degrees in the sky. Exactly 20 minutes.
Exactly one day.
The Lord blesses our every day. Cherish the one you have and spend the entire day
working his works and living the gift of the present in the present. Live 2012 to the
fullest and praise the Lord. Don’t have your “lost days.”
